About stomach cancer surgery

Tumours from gastrointestinal tract can present in many ways commonly with bleeding, anemia, early satiety, weight loss or abdominal pain. An initial endoscopy and biopsy (camera test) can rapidly help assess and confirm the diagnosis. Stomach cancer surgery is usually planned in consensus between the members of our multi-disciplinary team at The Surgeons Collective. Your surgeon discusses the results of the routine tests undertaken, with the medical oncologist and other specialist doctors.

Surgery for stomach cancer may involve a partial gastrectomy (removal of part of the stomach). In other situations, it may involve the removal of the entire stomach (total gastrectomy). We are here to help you with excellence in care, planning your surgery and offering support, genuine comfort and kindness as you go through a challenging time.

Treatment plans including stomach cancer surgery

At The Surgeons Collective, we work together as a team of experienced and highly qualified health professionals. When you come to see us, our first focus is to give you total clarity about your condition. Once we have identified your medical fitness, the stage of your cancer, the likely prognosis and all the factors that impact your treatment options, we will propose a personalised treatment plan.

Your surgeon’s role is to plan the consultations with other specialists such as a gastroenterologist and a medical oncologist. Our role is also to make sure you clearly understand your treatment options and to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.  A treatment plan may include more than just the stomach cancer surgery: it may involve chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Whatever the recommendation of your surgeon, you can count on us for support and clarification.
